
Advances in Palliative Care (3.5 Day Course)
Objectives
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Managing pain and complex symptoms
- End of life care for patients with long term conditions e.g. neurological, dementia, heart failure
- Prescribing in renal failure
- Communication
- Managing last days of life for patients with difficult symptoms
Intended Audience
Qualified Nursing Staff who have already completed the 6 day Palliative Care Foundation Course within the last 5 years. If attendance on the 6 day Foundation Course was not within the last 5 years participants are invited to discuss their application with the Course Lead as this course builds on the knowledge gained within the 6 day course. This course will contribute to CPD participatory learning as part of your NMC re-validation

Cost
£200.00 per person or free to South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust staff members.
This course is linked to University of Sunderland. Students have the option to complete Undergraduate /Postgraduate Certificate of Achievement in Improving Clinical Practice in Palliative and End of Life Care.

- 20 level 6 or Level 7 credits
- Assessment: The short course is assessed by a 2500 word critical reflective essay situated in practice within your specialist area. Submission date is 4 weeks following the end of taught days
